“What kind of commitment is asked of my player?”
Great question. When joining a club - player commitment is vital. Tryouts each season means there are no guarantees your player will make it each year. High demand - coaches will look for players who commit and who are improving. Playing multiple sports is something we do support for young athletes, its just about finding the balance
“How much does the full year cost & do we need to pay the entire year up front?”
This should certainly be discussed prior to committing to any club. If you feel like its stretching your wallet, it would be better to find a more affordable experience that fits your budget. With PESA, we work with our families. We have sponsors who assist when needed, but in regards to pricing in our area, we are the most affordable. No hidden fees or random dues. The Fall & Spring seasons are $549.00 each. This covers 2 trainings a week, league play & tournaments. We also offer complimentary private training for our players. Monthly installments are an option here at PESA
3. Jill T., “How far are the games?”
Good question when committing to a club. It can get overwhelming traveling as parents, especially with multiple children. At PESA, local competition is most common. Potentially the occasional game is 45 minutes away. Tournaments could be in different states but we do compete in NJ tournaments as the primary location,
4.Christina M.“How does playing time work - do all players receive equal time? - thanks!”
If your player is riding the bench for a majority of the season, it would be wise to look elsewhere once the season is completed. This can damage self-confidence and ruin a players love for the game. With the younger age groups, PESA players receive a good chunk of time; however, playing time is not equal. No player will ever sit the bench for an entire game at any age level. Some players will play full time - it all depends how the player is performing and the level of competition.
5.What are the coaching "credentials" of the staff?
This is a great question when joining a club. A coach can make or break a players passion for the game. Word of mouth typically is best- asking other parents how the coach interacts with the players. Of course, success rate is a nice addition but at the younger levels especially - coach and player relationship is key. At PESA, our coaches are licensed and have years of experience working with a variety of age groups at different skill levels.
6.How would you describe your "style of play"? How do you measure player development/improvement?
This looks to be a question directed towards PESAs philosophy of the game. We play and teach a unique system with a lot of moving parts. It takes time to learn with multiple building blocks - but this is a great environment for a player learning multidimensional levels of the game- not just rely on one player or position for example - team build-up will find the success. Also, we feel it causes more engagement working a unique system then your standard formations that are taught at grassroots or beginner to intermediate courses.
A few good ways to measure player development/improvement:
Players confidence level throughout the season
Juggling combinations with noticeable success
Player performance on the field throughout the season
Noticeable touches cleaned up during skills & drills
